Biography

Hello everyone it seems like yesterday
That I was taking Joshua to the doctor for his feet. In August of 2010 he just walks kind of wobbly. So I took him to the pediatrician. She discovered that he had no reflexes on the left side and so she sent us to the hospital which was nearby to get a catscan. We got the catscan then the doctor told us we had to go straight to our pediatrician. I thought it was really odd that I had to go back to my childs doctor when they usually close at 5 and it was nearly 6 pm. I just keep praying for good results for my son. I went back to my pediatrician and she said my son had a tumor about the size of a golfball and he had to have brain surgery to remove it. I don’t think I ever processed what they were saying all I thought was about making my son better. So we got transferred to Vanderbilt where they performed the first surgery and when my son woke up he was basicly limp and couldn’t do much on his left side. We stayed in the hospital for thirteen days. I stayed by his side through it all. I prayed for him day and night and I prayed for god to give me enough grace to go through this test because I truly believe it was a test of faith. I never thought that god wouldn’t heal my son. Vanderbilt told us that we had to do like 6 weeks of radiation and a year and a half of chemo. I just thought that was crazy and I had to find another place to treat my son. Through this time my immediate family had a couple meetings about Joshua care but I just focused my time on Joshua and on my computer and finding out all I could about this place st jude. St jude definitely stepped up and got all the records needed as well as I did my part. We left a week or so later. They did all the routine and specialized test and we did our second surgery a week or so later. Before the second surgery josh was still in a wheelchair and his eyes was still crossed and he had to be assisted when walking. After the surgery though he woke up within a hour fully alert and his eyes weren’t crossed and when therapists came the following day his walking was 50% better. We were able to go to housing (which st jude provides) 4 days after surgery. God is so good! We then recovered from the surgery and within 2 weeks we started our six weeks of radiation. Radiation was totally a piece of cake to say the least..no vomiting..no getting sick..After radiation we got a chance to go home and was able to spend thanksgiving and Christmas with my family. Which was a blessing. I even got to send my other three sons which was a joy and a blessing. We went back to st jude on December 23 due to bad weather coming in. We went to the grizzly house on the 26th of December and we started our routine tests again. On December 29th we went to stay at a apartment called target house which is so awesome. We started chemo on January 1st. I prayed so much and I continue to for my son to get better. We did four months of chemo and the results are out of this world.

Well today I got my results…Josh hearing has remained the same and the doctor said that just isn’t the norm. hearing loss is a side effect to chemo. Josh hears so good…No excessive vomiting, in fact he only threw up on the days we did cisplatin..eyesight is good..he had a couple fevers but that was when his counts were low so that is understandable. He did a spine mri no new tumors there. He did lumbar puncture so no new tumors there. He did brain functional mri and no tumors present there. In fact it seems as if god has given him a clean slate. We can’t praise god enough and I ask all my friends to keep us uplifted in prayer as we go thru this journey. This journey has really made to love god just that much more. I feel in life we need to go thru things to really appreciate god and to be a testimony to his people and to be to live for god and I am a living witness that no matter what the circumstance that if you trust in god and give all your worries to him then he will take care of the rest. I love god with all my heart and this experience although at that time was so terrible and it has made a better person. Thanks for your prayers and just keep praying as I know god has good things in store for all of us. Be blessed. I love everyone!

Joshua now walks with braces as well as he sees speech, physical therapy, and ot twice a week. We will  be homeschool as well because his balance is totally off.

Well here is my reflection for today...Its hard to see when you're in the thick of things, but there are positives to be gleaned from this experience.  It is a difficult journey, but we believe there is a purpose to it. If medullablastoma had never entered our lives, we would have never have met the amazing people who care for our children.  To know them is a gift, and our lives are richer for knowing them. If medullablastoma had never entered our lives, God would not have re-entered the lives of so many who chose to pray for my little boy even though they hadn't really said a prayer in years. If medullablastoma had never entered my life , the little everyday joys of childhood may have passed unnoticed, like they do for so many who think this will never happen to their child. I truly believe god does not do anything by mistake and this obstacle in our life will only make us stronger.
