Biography
Mckennah has Partial, Complex Epilepsy... We thought she was a
perfectly healthy child until one day however Mckennah came home from school and
described to me what she called a "weird feeling" These "weird feelings"
continued for several months and we visited her pediatrician, ER, and eventually
a neurologists who misdiagnosed her with migraines. However, Mckennah
experienced her first grand mal seizure on 02/05/05 and this became the hint to
our real issue: Mckennahs MRI revealed brain injury on the right side due to
stroke at birth (umbilical cord wrapped 4 times at that) We tried every anti
seizure medicine and her neurologists finally determined that Mckennah has
intractable seizures (cannot be controlled with medication) and referred us to a
neurosurgeon. After many tests Mckennah was decided a good candidate for surgery
and underwent her right temporal lobectomy on 12/07/07. Mckennah was completely
tapered off 1 medication and was seizure free for 2 years..
but then 2010 came and so did breakthrough seizures. Mckennahs seizures slowly
worsened and would result in a prolonged or grandmal seizure sometimes. We have
had to call 911 and paramedics twice this past month because of this once at
home, once at school. Mckennah is now in care at Leboheur Children’s Hospital in
Memphis TN and has grids placed on the right side of her brain she will undergo
her second right temporal lobectomy on Wednesday November 10.
UPDATE:  Mckennah had her surgery and is doing really well.
