Biography

Noah was born on September 29th 1998. When he was born he weighed a whopping 11 pounds, 7 oz. I always start by mentioning that, because, up until Noah's diagnosis, he had a pretty normal life, other than having attention deficit disorder. Noah LOVES to be outside. In fact, I have a video tape of when he was just about 2 years old, saying over and over and over for almost 1 hour "outside" except when he said it, it sounded like "outchide" that is all he said, and he was so distraught, that I would not let him go out, due to the weather. Noah has always LOVED baseball, and his favorite team is the Twins. We will be trying to get some tickets to enjoy the new outdoor stadium this year. Last year, his father won tickets through his work, Target, and they had such a great time! Noah has played baseball, since he was very young, and started at T-Ball. This was the first year he was going to try soccer, but that is out now, because of the potential risks involved with ma
> king contact with other players. But he WILL be playing baseball this summer. One thing with Noah and baseball is, even though, he has been encouraged to tryout for the traveling teams, he does NOT want to do that. He always says "Mom, I just like having fun, I don't want to be competitive." Besides baseball, another favorite thing is skateboarding. He loves it and he likes to do long-boarding, which is like surfing on wheels. Those things might be out this year too, which makes him sad.
> In November Noah started to have headaches at night and early morning. As any parent, the first few times in the AM, you say..."son...take an Aspirin, you ARE going to school!" But it didn't take me long to realize something wasn't quite right. He started to have symptoms that seemed like panic attacks (I have had them before) I thought because of some kind of stress he was feeling, is the reason for the headaches. I scheduled an appointment for the pediatric doctor and a therapist. By the time we got in, Noah started to hear swishing in his eyes, and had been experiencing visual difficulties adjusting to light and dark. The doctor mentioned that nighttime headaches were unusual and that we should order and MRI, "just be on the safe side." The results came back, and we were told he had hydrochephalaus, due to a tumor on the brain-stem. We needed to go to the hospital right away, and we were to meet the oncologist and neurosurgeon in the ER. The following 2 weeks resulted in 3
> different brain surgeries, to help the hydrochephalaus. He finally had a VP shunt placed. Because of the location of the tumor, the doctors cannot operate on it, even to get a biopsy. The long-term prognosis is very good. We just need to recover and work through this. As Noah aways says "I just want to be normal Noah." With love, support and prayers, soon we hope that everything will be back to normal....well the "new normal
