Biography

Everyone always asks how did you come up with the name Saige?
Before Saige was born her father and I knew she was going to be special and
unique like her name.  Originally she was going to be a Paige until I heard the
name Saige and that was it!  I was curious to see if the name was even
recognized in a name book and there it was.  The name Saige means wisdom and
health.
Saige was born June 20th 1997 and was the cutest, chubbiest and most
healthy little baby.  Her father and I were over the moon in love with her and
let me tell you we enjoyed every minute kissing those sweet cheeks of hers.
When Saige was 14 months her sister Rachael was born and she was the best helper
to her mommy.  Saige and Rachael quickly became best sister friends.  When Saige
was 4 years baby brother Seth came into the world and once again was mommy's
best little helper.  Saige is always seeking to help and please.
Now, looking back over this past year Saige seemed a bit more
lethargic and just not herself.  Saige would come home after school and nap (she
never did that) and her grades were starting to slip.  The beginning of March
this year Saige had what we thought was the flu, chills, fever, dizziness and
even starting developing little pin dot style bruises.  I had mentioned the
bruising to a co-worker and when the co-worker told me to take her to her
pediatrician right away I knew something was seriously wrong.  March 8th I took
her to the Dr. and they ordered blood work right away.  We were sent home and
within an hour the phone rang and we were told to get to Dayton Children's
hospital hematology and oncology clinic immediately I couldn't believe what I
was hearing.
When we arrived to the hospital her hematologist said her cells all
look good her bone marrow just isn't making any new cells.  A bone marrow biopsy
was ordered that confirmed she had severe aplastic anemia a.k.a. bone marrow
failure a rare disease.  We were told she would need a bone marrow transplant to
cure this disease and it turned out her sister Rachael was her perfect match!
Saige had many transfusions and some viral complications between the time of
diagnosis and transplant.   We were sent to Cincinnati Children's June 12th 2011
for the transplant and she is currently 20 days post transplant and she is doing
amazingly well!  As I write this her counts are continuing to rise and will be
discharged to Ronald McDonald house tomorrow.
We believe God has always had a perfect plan for each of our
children.  The road may not be easily traveled, but God will carry us along the
journey.
